Our Farm’s Early History
For four generations, the Goetzka family has farmed this land, raised livestock, and built their lives here. The original barn, constructed in the early 1900s, once provided shelter for the farm’s horses and cattle, and in later years, thousands of pheasants.
The historic barn still stands on the property today, serving as a lasting reminder of the land’s agricultural roots and the generations who cared for it.
The Beginnings of the Hunting Preserve
Scott’s parents and grandparents began raising pheasants in 1972 to sell to sportsmen’s clubs. In 1978, they began offering pheasant hunts on the farm. The family continued to raise pheasants until 2007, when a snowstorm devastated their flight pens. Today, we get our adult pheasants from Oak Ridge Pheasant Ranch. In the early 1980s, we began to offer trophy whitetail hunts on the family’s home farm.
From Hand-Thrown Targets to a Premier Course
Scott began offering sporting clays in 1990. In those early days, Scott or one of his employees would walk the course and operate the hand throwers so guests could shoot.
What began as a simple, hands-on experience has grown into a modern sporting clays facility with 24 stations and automatic target throwers. Although the equipment and course have evolved, the focus on providing an enjoyable and welcoming outdoor experience has remained the same.
